Muiderslot Medieval Castle, also known as Muiden Castle, resides approximately 15 kilometers to Amsterdam’s southeast and along the Vecht River. The castle is one of the off beaten tourist attractions in Muiden, a medieval city in North Holland. If you are traveling from Amsterdam to Haarlem to explore the attractions situated afar from the bustling city, it will be a good plan to visit the castle that retains the medieval charm of Muiden.

The origin of Muiderslot Castle traces back to the late 13th Century. It was rebuilt around a century after Floris V, Count of Holland was captured and murdered nearby the castle in 1296. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which you can visit from the Dutch Capital by boat or bike when on a one-day tour Amsterdam. The moated castle itself presents ideal opportunities for photography and features a Water Shield pavilion and historical gardens that will enchant kids and adults alike. It is a fairytale lookalike castle featuring a moat and a drawbridge in the Northern Province of Holland.

The pavilion is something, which kids will enjoy since it offers overlooking views of falcons and owls in Muiderslot Castle. Better yet, a guide will tell your kids enchanting tales about falconry in the days of Floris V, Count of Holland. Apart from that, Muiderslot offers kids some games and recreational activities for children just as they tour the castle inside out alongside its towers.

The popular resident of Muiden Castle was Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, a Dutch Historian cum writer. When you tour there with kids, you can visit the personal rooms of the residents, and come to know about the traditions, culture and hobbies of Dutch Golden Age of the 17th Century.

The Castle is open to public access year-round, but you should check the scheduled timings that tend to change according to seasons in Holland. Starting from April to October, the timings for public visit are 10:00 am to 05:00 pm on weekdays, and from 12:00 pm until 05:00 pm on weekends. The castle closes from November to March from Mondays to Fridays, but stays open on weekends in the exact schedule as said.
